[11-028_ponte zêzere]
Footbridge over the Zêzere River. The development of the village of Constância is intimately linked with the two rivers that surround it. Due to the fast growth of pedestrian and cycling tourism and its impact in the local economy, it is more urgent than ever to build a footbridge that allows a fluid transition between the two margins of the Zêzere river. The existing connection is an old bridge which makes the connection between the village and nautical centre (in the opposit riverbank) long and time consuming, in addition to creating a detour in the Grande Rota do Tejo pedestrian route. The new pedestrian bridge should allow a smooth connection between the village, the nautical centre and the GR Tejo route.

One of the key factors of the project is the maximum flood level which is approximately 15m above the river bed. This defines the height of the footbridge, positioning it in a relatively high level when compared with the level of the village's centre. A spiraling ramp was placed on the left riverbank (Constância) to overcome this level difference. This ramp wanders in between the trees in order to refrain its visual impact and allowing views over the village and the river.

camping

[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

[10-025_CAMPING DE ABRANTES]
Along the Tejo (Tagus) River and across from the city of Abrantes, the plot naturally establishes a border between the intricate layout of the surrounding houses and the river.
This project presents a footprint that takes advantage of the morphology of that frontier and becomes a unifying, continuous structure. This new building is capable of containing the whole functional program and involve all the pre-existing structures on the north front of the plot , creating a continuous, organic and smooth surface. Its structure, open and permeable, allows a direct and constant relation with the green surroundings throughout the whole extension of the building and all areas of the program.
The whole structure is walkable along a gallery that communicates with the outside and that allows access to all program areas on the inside. This gallery is marked by a façade composed of a repetition of vertical elements, a louvre that creates a physical barrier that is interrupted by openings that allow access to the camping site.

brevemente

...brevemente
...coming soon

TESTE

[1] competition - 3rd prize
In the village of Minde, Alcanena, this project aims for the redevelopment of the old Emídio da Silva Raposo Spinning Factory, of which a large industrial warehouse with a shed like roof is the most important remainder. This volume concentrates the most relevant symbolic constructive elements and is the motivation for a re-use that can convoke its dignity back into a renovated spatial experience.
The top level of this pre-existence is activated with a large open-space that accesses five autonomous cultural associations. This entrance hall that houses spaces of shared use by all the five cultural associations, accessed directly from the street by means of a simple ramp, is the moment that defines the concept of this proposal.
From the pavement of this level emerge the stairs that give access to the inferior level, distributing directly to each of the program nuclei.
Each nucleus (one per each of the five cultural associations) holds its specific program and expands to the outside of the footprint of the original building according to its needs. From the design of each of the nucleus (resulting of its specific needs) emerge interstitial spaces that can hold performances form each of the associations that surround it.

In collaboration with Rui Mendes.

cdi-home

[CO010-009_CDI] Information and Documentation Center of the Alcântara Maritime Station - competition - 1st prize
The installation of a Documentation and Information Centre (CDI) in the Alcântara Maritime Station in Lisbon intends to give a new life to an historical but abandoned building.
In the interior of the pre-existing building, a void will house a new and contemporary volume, in a material contrasting with its environment, that moulds to the containing space but is detached from its limits, generating four levels. This allows an integral reading of its shape and to gather the light coming form the openings in the existing façades.
Its vitrified, shiny and reflecting material marks the building's transformation and points towards the Lisbon harbour's future. In the CDI we propose the creation of a unifying and guiding “line”, a “conducting wire” that simultaneously bears the technical and energy supply infrastructures, becoming an interface for the user to manipulate the multimedia exhibition and works as an architectural element like a railing or a lamp.

In collaboration with Nelson Magro

Project under development

quiosque-home

&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br /&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;
[1] [2] [3] [4] [VIDEO]

[10-024_quiosque tejo]
This is the first piece of a series that integrates the Médio Tejo project, that aims the touristic development of the banks of the river Tejo between Abrantes and Vila-Nova-da-Barquinha. The concept for the exhibition space emerges from the reflection about the themes proposed by the Triennale – 5 nucleus along a path of dialogue between North (Scandinavia+Switzerland) and South (Africa+Brazil), with Portugal as a hinge articulating those two extremes. We conceived a platform which generates a unified space without frontiers or barriers, like a commune surface with no hierarchy as a starting point.
This PLATFORM-table is the main exhibition support and is built out of rigorously equal pieces set apart from each other to allow visitors to circulate between them, keeping the unity-PLATFORM intact, as density is the main idea behind the exhibition. This proposal is the invitation to a wandering path in a stabilized image without hierarchy in its program. The PLATFORM-concept is a device open to a completely individual experience that can go from the overall panorama, or the peripheral overlook, to a complete immersion.

In collaboration with Rui Mendes.

zeppelin-home

[1] international competition - 3rd prize
In the Ancão Peninsula, in the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, the project proposes three progressive stages of development which intend, in the short term, to answer the present day's need of improving its conditions, and in the medium and long terms, alert for the challenges and need of a gradual re-naturalization of the island.
In the first stage the intervention is surgical in the critical point, re-qualifying the circulation and creating a longitudinal axis that will organizes and equips the beach (inhabited wall). This wall like element will structure the public space and contains all the necessary infrastructure. On top of the wall, a path will cover the whole length of the island.
The second stage consists of the demolition of the private buildings of the island and maintaining the public spaces.
The third stage completes the re-naturalization process, leaving only the axis wall that by this stage should have been “swallowed” by the dune and only shows the path at the surface.

porto-salvo-home

[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

[CO_07-003_porto salvo]
The site for this school is in Porto Salvo, in the Oeiras district, along the highway connecting Lisbon to Cascais. The versatility of this modularity will allow the client to commercially evaluate which and how many typologies he will want to implement.

musseque-home

[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

[08-014_musseque] preliminary design
This Urban Plan's goal is the easy integration of the informal neighbourhoods of Luanda called “musseque” in open grounds expecting new neighbourhoods. The plan is easily adaptable to different urban contexts or rough topographies. Green areas, open squares in different scales and a hierarchy of streets was established. Public and community buildings are located adjacent do the squares.
Due to repetition of the modular buildings, a system of colours in the façades helps guidance throughout the neighbourhood. Running along the main façade of the houses, a bench emerges as a living area in contact with the community. Each house is developed in a 11x11m plot. The structure is regular allowing the expansion of the house into the courtyard through self-construction as the family grows.

castelo-home

[1] One of dense construction, with thick walls and several small compartments, and another with lighter construction and broader compartments but with a distribution of spaces little in sync with the contemporary way of living.
Outside, a surprisingly large patio gives the house a feeling of space that transforms its essence and becomes the main living space. The goal is to achieve generous spaces, specially the social ones, and a practical use of each division.
A light structure modular element that contains a working area and a small toilet separates the dining and living rooms, allowing a bigger permeability between these two spaces. The covered outside area is an extension of the kitchen that faces the patio, allowing an informal eating space.
On the roof terrace lays a new volume that marks a distinction between old and new.

serralharia-home

[1] [2]

[08-013_serralharia] under construction
Project for the new steel workshop and locker-rooms in the S. It's footprint is the consequence of the site's pre-existences, namely the contention wall the longitudinally defines the plot, in almost all its extension. This wall also defines two levels: The entrance level, at the same height as the street that gives access to the plot; and the second level, 2,10m above the first one.
The building is composed of three parts: the workshop, the locker-rooms and an outside covered area. The ceiling heights of the workshop and the locker-rooms is respectively 4,60m and 2,50m. The building will also house a multifunctional room, an auditorium and a multimedia centre.
The lack of visibility from the street in a building with such a public program is a condition that needs attention. To solve this problem, the proposal is to redesign the limit wall of the garden in order to expose the building's entrance.
The project tries to create a balance between the imagery of contemporary architecture and the preservation of an historic heritage. This balance is achieved by preserving the main façades of the two existing buildings and the demolition and reconstruction of its remainders in a clear and minimal form, keeping however the plastic nature of the existing morphology. The two volumes work as a frame to a third new wooden one nested between them that will hold the auditorium.

sesmarias

[06-001_sesmarias]
The “landmark” helps guidance through the territory both due to the strategic position of each module in the network of paths and the information they carry and due to the visual network generated between them, suggesting visual paths, aiming for directions to follow, thus approaching different interest points. This “landmark”, based on a modular system, can be a shelter, a resting place, an information point a landscape interpretation sign, etc. Its main purpose is to provide for better conditions to enjoy the landscape and nature. Three pre-cast concrete modules and several different metal accessories, when combined in different manners, result in a variety of programs, adaptable to different topographies.

contacto

[contact]

atelier RUA
Av.
